MLB – Tigers Edge Cards
Jose Iglesias singled home the winning run in the 10th inning, as the Detroit Tigers edged the Saint Louis Cardinals 4-3 Saturday. The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning, when Miguel Cabrera hit a solo home run – the 400th of his career. Detroit added two more in the third inning on an RBI double by Ian Kinsler, and a single by Yoenis Cespedes. Tigers’ starter David Price surrendered three solo home runs before leaving with the score tied in the seventh inning. Blaine Hardy got the win in relief, and Joakim Soria closed the game for his 12th save.

The Tigers wrap up that interleague series against the Cardinals in Saint Louis tomorrow night. Alfredo Simon will start against Lance Lynn. Hear the first pitch at 8:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Injured Detroit pitchers Justin Verlander and Bruce Rondon each felt good yesterday, after throwing bullpen sessions on Friday. There’s still no timetable for either to begin a rehab assignment. Meanwhile, an MRI of starter Shane Greene’s elbow showed no damage. Greene left Friday’s game with an ulnar nerve problem, that caused numbness in the fingers of his pitching hand.

The New York Mets erupted for 10 runs in the fourth inning, and went on to crush the Milwaukee Brewers 14-1 on Saturday. Matt Garza was charged with nine of those fourth-inning runs, along with another he gave up in the second inning.

The Brewers conclude that set in New York this afternoon. Wily Peralta will pitch against Noah Syndergaard.
