High School

In high school boys basketball last night…
• Calumet fell to Negaunee 63-31. Blake Tarvis, Alan Bjorn and Micah Pieti each scored eight for the Copper Kings. Jordan Guenette led the Miners with 18 points.
• Hancock lost to Ishpeming 72-24.
• Jeffers shut down Ontonagon 74-35. Matthew Schutz scored 19 for the Jets. Lincoln Just added 17, and Levi Frahm chipped in 13.
• Chassell fell to Wakefield Marenisco 68-56. Oliver Campbell led the Panthers with 18 points. Brayden Larson added 15, and Kalvin Kytta scored 13.

In girls action last evening…
• Hancock fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 51-45.
• Chassell lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 59-30.

College Football

Top-ranked University of Michigan claimed the national college football title last night, with a resounding 34-13 victory over second-ranked University of Washington. Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards combined to rush for 237 yards and four touchdowns. Corum was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. The Wolverines’ defense intercepted heralded Huskies quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. twice. It’s the first national crown for Michigan since 1997, when they shared the honor with Nebraska.

NHL

The Red Wings will host the Oilers Thursday, with coverage starting at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift. 

NBA

The Pistons welcome the Kings tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

The knee injury Lions tight end Sam LaPorta suffered in Sunday’s win over the Vikings may not be as serious as originally thought. Yesterday, coach Dan Campbell said there’s an “outside chance” LaPorta could be ready for Sunday’s playoff opener against the Rams, and noted that his recovery time will be measured in “days, not weeks.”
