High School
In high school hockey last night, Dawson McKay’s goal in the third period gave Houghton a 3-2 win over Calumet.

In boys high school basketball last evening…
– Calumet swamped Baraga 71-30. Matt Ojala single-handedly outscored the Vikings, with 32 points for the Copper Kings.

In girls basketball last evening…
– Baraga shut down Lake Linden-Hubbell 36-23.
– Jeffers stopped Bessemer 47-38.
– Chassell downed Ontonagon 52-36. Sydney Danison had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers.

Finlandia
Finlandia University’s Kelsie Richards has been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The former Houghton High School standout averaged 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots in the Lions’ three games last weekend.

MTU
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team dropped a 98-66 decision at Winona State last night. The Warriors took command with a 19-2 run to close the first half, and then dominated the Huskies through the second half. Kyle Monroe scored 35 for Tech.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team lost 87-82 at Minnesota-Duluth last evening. The NUM women’s team fell 76-55 at UM-D.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings scored the final four goals of the game, and defeated the New York Islanders 6-3 last night. Six different Wings scored. Henrik Zetterberg and Dylan Larkin each had three assists. Petr Mrazek stopped 34 shots to earn the win in net. The Wings visit the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. NBA
The Detroit Pistons face the Mavericks in Dallas this evening.

The Pistons will continue to play without Avery Bradley for at least a week. He’s suffering from an adducter strain.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers will finish the season with Brett Hundley at quarterback. After their elimination from playoff contention, Aaron Rodgers has been placed on injured reserve, to allow his broken collarbone to heal fully.

For the first time since 2005, no Packers were named to the starting Pro Bowl team. Defensive lineman Mike Daniels and fullback Aaron Ripkowski were selected as first alternates.

Cornerback Darius Slay will represent the Detroit Lions at the Pro Bowl. Return specialist Jamal Agnew was named a first alternate, and quarterback Matthew Stafford a second alternate.
