The Tigers had yesterday off, and open a series at Texas tonight. Drew Smyly will face Colby Lewis. Hear the first pitch at 8:05 on AM 1400, WCCY.

The Royals won last night… so Detroit’s lead in the American League Central stands at two games.

Brewers Blanked by Nats
Milwaukee Brewers Circle LogoThe Brewers collected just three hits, and lost to the Nationals 3-0. The only scoring in the game came on a three run homer that Adam LaRoche hit off Matt Garza in the third inning.

The Brewers host the Nationals again tonight. Yovani Gallardo will start against Jordan Zimmermann.

In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball play last night…
– At Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, The Marley Bar scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead… but Post 90/Lakes Lounge scored two in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 20-19 walk-off win. Joe Rivest had five hits, including a homer, for Post 90. Post 90 then fell to Coca Cola/Miller’s Recreation 11-8. Rivest had another homer in the losing effort.
– At Hurontown, the score of the game between 906/Pilgrim River Steakhouse and The Goal Post was not reported. Auto Value defeated Osmose 23-9. Jake Loukus had five hits, and D.J. Coponen homered for Auto Value.
– At the Hancock Driving Park, McGann’s/Northern Auto took both ends of a double header… starting with a 17-11 victory over Erickson Crowley Peterson. Tim Loftquist and Alex Tarvainen homered for Erickson. McGann’s then turned on the power to defeat Nutini’s 19-10. David Wesa hit two home runs… Steve Aho, Jason Koski , Mark Koski and Kyle Storm each hit one.

– At the Dollar Bay field, BlueSky Health entertains Mosquito Inn.
– At the Wolverine Field, Wolverine-Orbit hosts Stanton.

Copper Country Horseshoe League
In Copper Country Horseshoe League play last night…
– Calumet One blanked Loading Zone 9-0.
– L and L shut ont North End one 9-0.
– Out of the Norm Tattoo stopped Borings Bargain Barn 8-1.
– Drift Inn shut down No Name 8-1.
– Dreamland defeated North End Two 7-2.
– Calumet Two got past Ahmeek Fire Department 6-3.

Former Wings Reach Hall of Fame
Two former Red Wings lead this year’s Hockey Hall of Fame Class. Goalie Dominik Hašek won two Stanley Cup titles with Detroit. He also played for the Blackhawks, Sabres and Senators. Mike Modano played his final season in Detroit, after many years with the Minnesota North Stars and Dallas Stars. He’s a Michigan native, who holds the NHL record for goals by an American player. Forward Peter Forsberg, and defenseman Rob Blake, coach Pat Burns and referee Bill McCreary round out this year’s class.
