MLB – Tigers Edge Astros
The Detroit Tigers blew a 5-0 lead, then bounced back to edge the Houston Astros 6-5 in extra innings yesterday. Detroit built that lead through six innings, while David Price dominated the Houston lineup. Price faltered in the seventh, though, and gave up three runs before leaving with two out. The Astros added a run in the eighth, and tied the game when Preston Tucker hit his first major-league home run off Joakim Soria in the ninth. The score remained tied until James McCann led off the bottom of the 11th with his second home run of the season.

The Tigers continue that home set against the Houston Astros tonight. Alfredo Simon will start against Collin McHugh. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Detroit reliever Bruce Rondon made his first rehab appearance with the Toledo Mud Hens last night. Rondon’s control was off, and he gave up a run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. He did, however, hit 99 miles per hour on the radar gun. Rondon has missed the entire season so far because of biceps tendinitis.

Garza

The Atlanta Braves scored seven times in the seventh inning, and blew past the Milwaukee Brewers 10-1 last night. Milwaukee starter Matt Garza gave up just one run over the first six innings, but left as the Atlanta scoring started in the seventh, and took the loss.

The Brewers continue that series against the Braves at Atlanta tonight. Wily Peralta will start against Alex Wood.

Brewers’ reliever Will Smith was ejected during the seventh inning last night’s game after Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez complained that Smith had a sticky substance on his arm. Smith said the substance was a combination of sunscreen and rosin that he had been using to help him grip the ball while warming up, and that he forgot to wipe it off when he entered the game. Smith could face a suspension and a fine.
