MLB

The Tigers held off a wild comeback by the Angels, and pulled out a 7-6 victory yesterday. Detroit built a 7-0 mid-game lead, with help from an inside-the-park home run from Justin-Henry Malloy in the fourth inning, and a more traditional homer by Carson Kelly in the fifth. Casey Mize tossed shutout ball into the sixth, giving up just three hits before leaving the game with a hamstring cramp. Los Angeles made a late run in the bottom of the ninth, when Shelby Miller gave up a three-run homer by Zach Neto, and a two-run shot by Jo Adell. Tyler Holton came in to strike out Nolan Schanuel for the game’s final out.

The Tigers take today off, and open a series at Minnesota tomorrow. Tarik Skubal will start against Simeon Woods Richardson. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Matt Vierling missed yesterday’s game. He fouled a ball off his foot while batting in the 10th inning of Saturday’s loss, and is considered day-to-day.

Brice Turang’s grand slam highlighted a seven-run fourth inning, as the Brewers cruised past the Cubs 7-1 yesterday. Christian Yelich also homered, and Freddy Peralta a run on two hits over seven innings. He struck out eight.

The Brewers visit the Rockies tonight. Bryse Wilson will pitch against Austin Gomber.

Joey Ortiz missed another game yesterday, as he continues to battle neck stiffness. He’s considered day-to-day.

NHL

Patrick Kane will return to the Red Wings next season. It’s a one-year deal, and specifics have not been revealed. Kane racked up 47 points in 50 games last season, after missing the first third of the campaign while recovering from hip surgery.

The Wings have extended qualifying offers to Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Jonatan Berggren and Joe Veleno.

NBA

The Pistons are making Cade Cunningham a very rich man. Reports are that the team will sign the former number-one draft pick to a five-year contract extension worth $226 million, with an additional $44 million in incentives.

Detroit may also have found its next head coach. There are reports that J.B. Bickerstaff will be hired to replace Monty Williams. Bickerstaff was recently fired by the Cavaliers after five years, despite leading them to the playoffs the past two seasons. He also spent time as head coach of the Grizzlies. He is the son of former NBA coach Bernie Bickerstaff.
