High School
The MacInnes Holiday Hockey Classic opens tonight at the SDC. Houghton takes on Calumet in the first game at 5:30. Hancock and Fond Du Lac tangle in the nightcap at 7:30. The consolation match will be played tomorrow evening at 5:30, and the championship game at 7:30. Coverage of both games each evening will begin at 5:10 on KBear 102.3.

College Hockey
The 57th Great Lakes Invitational Hockey Tournament opens today at its new home at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Michigan Tech and Western Michigan will meet at 3:30. Michigan State will face Ferris State at 7:00. The consolation match will be played tomorrow at 3:30, and the championship game at 7:00.
College Football
Former Northern Michigan University linebacker Shane Richardson is returning to Marquette as the Wildcats’ new head football coach. Richardson has spent the past eight seasons as head coach at University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he compiled a record of 37-48, including a 5-6 campaign last season.
NHL
The Red Wings skate at Pittsburgh tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons’ losing streak grew to six games last night, with a 142-131 overtime loss to the Clippers. Eight Detroit players reached double figures in scoring, led by Bojan Bogdanovic’s 23 points. Jalen Duren had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pistons entertain the Magic tomorrow.
NFL
In last night’s contest, the Chargers clinched a playoff berth by shutting down the Colts 20-3.

The Tigers have signed reliever Kervin Castro to a minor league contract. Castro showed some promise as a rookie for the Giants in 2021, but struggled for the Giants and the Cubs last season.
