In high school boys basketball last night…
– Houghton opened up an 18-point halftime lead, and cruised past L’Anse 77-52. Chris Filpus scored 18 for the Gremlins.
– Calumet lost 80-37 at Negaunee. See video highlights here.
Lake Linden Hubbell Logo– Hancock fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 59-45.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell trounced Watersmeet 75-41. Congratulations to Arthur Lyons, who set a new Lakes school record by scoring 42 points.
– Jeffers got past Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 55-49.
– Chassell edged Baraga 64-61.

In last night’s only girls game, Calumet defeated West Iron County 60-41.

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team overcame a 12-point deficit, but lost 73-72 at Findlay last night. Danielle Blake’s layup with 40 seconds left gave the Huskies one point lead, but the Oilers converted a rebound off a missed free throw into a game-winning jump shot with one second remaining. Morgan Anderson and. Kylie Moxley each scored 17 points for the Huskies.

The Tech men’s team was outscored 17-5 over the final seven minutes, and lost to Findlay 62-52. Kyle Monroe led the Huskies with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Both MTU hoops teams play at Wayne State tomorrow.

The Michigan Tech hockey team skates at Lake Superior State tonight and tomorrow night.

Both Northern Michigan University basketball teams lost at Wayne State last evening – the women 61-58, and the men 58-52. Both Wildcats teams play at Findlay tomorrow afternoon.

The NMU hockey team welcomes Ferris State tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

Darren Helm’s second goal of the game lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens last night. Helm’s game-winner came with six minutes remaining in the third period. Petr Mrazek stopped 23 shots to earn the win in goal. The Wings visit the New Jersey Devils tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Philadelphia 76ers tonight.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers hold sole possession of first place in the NFC North Division this morning. Last night, the Arizona Cardinals knocked off the Minnesota Vikings 23-20. The Cardinals kicked the game-winning field goal with less than two minutes to play. The Vikes were trying to set up their own game-winning field goal with five seconds remaining, but Dwight Freeney knocked the ball out of Teddy Bridgewater’s hand, and Arizona recovered it.

The Detroit Lions visit the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Kickoff is at 1:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY. The Green Bay Packers host the Dallas Cowboys in a 4:25 game.

The Detroit Tigers have sent minor-league catcher Manny Pina to the Milwaukee Brewers as the “player to be named later” in the Francisco Rodriguez trade. Yesterday, the Brewers acquired third base prospect Garin Cecchini from the Red Sox in a cash deal. Milwaukee also concluded the deal that will send first baseman Adam Lind to the Mariners in exchange for three pitching prospects.
