The Team Copper Country U18 hockey team opens the Midget AA Split Season playoffs this afternoon. Team CC will face the Holland Ice Dogs at Chelsea at 12:30. The tournament continues through the weekend.
MTU
The Michigan Tech hockey team opens its WCHA season with games tonight and tomorrow night at Ferris State.
The MTU soccer team plays at Grand Valley State tonight, and at Ferris State on Sunday.
The Huskies volleyball team plays at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover in Aurora, Illinois, this weekend. Tech will open against Ohio Valley today at 12:30, and face Lewis this evening.
The Tech women’s tennis team hosts Lake Superior State this morning at 10:00.
The unbeaten MTU football team plays at Grand Valley State tomorrow night.
NMU
The Northern Michigan University football team plays at Wayne State tonight.
The NMU hockey team plays a home-and-home set with Lake Superior State, in Marquette tonight, and the Soo tomorrow. The results do not count in the WCHA standings.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team plays at Maranatha Baptist University tonight.
The Finlandia football team plays at Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon.
The Finlandia men’s soccer team visits Robert Morris-Springfield tomorrow, and at Fontbonne University Sunday afternoon. The women’s soccer team visits Alverno College Sunday afternoon.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings will host the Hurricanes tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Johan Franzen has been placed on Injured Reserve after once again experiencing symptoms believed to be related to the concussion he suffered last January. Darren Helm’s return from a separated shoulder has been put on hold because of a lingering issue. He had hoped to be ready this weekend, but that now appears unlikely.

The Detroit Pistons continue their exhibition season Sunday afternoon at San Antonio.
MLB
The New York Mets advanced to the National League Championship Series with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers last night. They’ll take on the Chicago Cubs for the National League pennant beginning tomorrow night.
The Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays open the American League Championship Series tonight.
Infielder Josh Wilson is no longer a Detroit Tiger. Wilson opted for free agency yesterday, after the club removed him the 40-man roster.

In last night’s NFL game, the New Orleans Saints upended the Atlanta Falcons 31-21.
On Sunday, the winless Detroit Lions host the Chicago Bears at 1:00. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The unbeaten Green Bay Packers entertain the San Diego Chargers in a late-afternoon game.

The Lake Superior Performance Rally begins this afternoon in Houghton. David Higgins from Wales has already clinched the season Rally America title. He’ll try to close out a perfect year with a win this weekend. Spectators can see the cars and meet the drivers at two Parc Exposes. The first is this afternoon between noon and 1:20 at the Rockhouse. The second is tomorrow morning between 10:00 and 11:00 at L’Anse Waterfront Park.
