– Lake Linden-Hubbell swept the Lakes Invitational. On the girls side, Hancock placed second, followed by Chassell, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Baraga and Jeffers. Joslynn Perala of the Lakes won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, and the discus throw. Jamie Hendrickson won the 400-meter dash and the high jump. Chassell’s Lela Rautiola took the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs. On the boys side, Chassell placed second, followed by Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Hancock, Baraga and Jeffers. For the Lakes, Cole Gregoire won the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, and the high jump. Caleb Gregoire claimed the 400-meter dash and the long jump. Finlandia
The Finlandia University softball team begins play at the American Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament in Alfred, New York, this afternoon. The second-seeded Lions will face third-seed Alfred State at 1:00 in the first game of the double-elimination event. Their second game will begin about 45 minutes after the first contest ends. We’ll broadcast all of the Lions tournament games on 99.3 The Lift.
The Lions baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Wisconsin-LaCrosse yesterday, 7-0 and 15-2. Joey Krug set a new Finlandia career hit record with 114, breaking the old mark of 113 held by Shawn Wickersheim. The Lions end their season with another doubleheader at LaCrosse today.
The Finlandia football team will host six home games next fall. The Lions will open the season on the road at Concordia-Wisconsin. They’ll then entertain Ripon College and Concordia-Chicago, before hosting MIAA opponents Olivet, Adrian, Albion and Hope. See the full Finlandia football schedule here.

Three Michigan Tech runners earned gold medals at the GLIAC Track and Field Championships yesterday. Liz Bloch won the 1,500-meter run. Matthew Pahl claimed the 10,000-meter run. Braden Reichl won the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers took an early lead, and held off the Kansas City Royals 4-3 last night. Detroit scored three in the first, and added the eventual game-winner in the third inning on an RBI double by Ronny Rodriguez. Matthew Boyd turned in his sixth straight quality start, giving up two runs over seven innings. He struck out nine. Shane Greene gave up a solo home run in the ninth, before closing the game and earning his 13th save.
The Tigers continue that home set against the Kansas City Royals this afternoon. Tyson Ross will start against Homer Bailey. Because of Finlandia softball on 99.3 The Lift, Tigers pregame coverage will begin at 3:45 on KBear 102.3.
Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun homered, as the Milwaukee Brewers got past the New York Mets 3-1 last night. The Brewers have hit home runs in each of their first 19 home games – a team record. Brandon Woodruff gave up a run over five innings to earn the win. He struck out seven.
The Brewers continue that home series against the Mets tonight. Gio Gonzalez will pitch against Zack Wheeler.

In the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs last night…
– The Carolina Hurricanes advanced to the Eastern Conference final with a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders. The Canes swept that series 4-0.
– The Dallas Stars edged the Saint Louis Blues 2-1. Dallas leads that series 3-2.
Tonight…
– The Columbus Blue Jackets visit the Boston Bruins. That series is tied 2-2.
– The San Jose Sharks host the Colorado Avalanche. That set is tied 2-2.
NBA
In NBA playoff action last night…
– The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Boston Celtics 123-116. Milwaukee leads that series 2-1.
– The Portland Trail Blazers outlasted the Denver Nuggets 140-137 in quadruple overtime. Portland leads that set 2-1.
Tonight, the Golden State Warriors visit the visit the Houston Rockets. Golden State has a 2-1 lead in that series.
