LL-H Softball, Jeffers Baseball Earn CMC All-Conference Honors – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

Jeffers high school has confirmed that the baseball regional semifinal against Norway will be played in Norway Wednesday at 4:00 Central, 5:00 Eastern Time. Remember that the Michigan High School Athletic Association requires that all tickets be purchased in advance online at GoFan.co.

Lake Linden-Hubbell dominates this year’s Copper Mountain Conference All-Conference Softball Team. The Lakes were named Team of the Year, Emily Jokela was named Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, and Curt Kinnunen was honored as Coach of the Year. Joining Jokela on the All-Conference team are fellow Lakes Kara Kinnunen, Olivia Shank and Marissa Sullivan. Other local players include Cori Jahfetson and Kylie Michaelson from Baraga, Kaylee Lahti from L’Anse, and Meg Ruohonen from Jeffers. Emme Bobula from Ontonagon, Keira Dakota from L’Anse, and Becca Lyons from Lake Linden earned honorable mention votes. See the full roster here.

Jeffers swept the Copper Mountain Conference baseball honors. The Jets were named Team of the Year, Kyle Helton was named Player of the Year, Cody Turner was named Pitcher of the Year, and Luke Paul was honored as Coach of the Year. Levi Frahm and Simon Rajala were named to the All-Conference team. Other local honorees include Easton Legault from Ewen-Trout Creek, Kayle Kaarto from Ontonagon, Dean Magaraggia and Ross Biekkola from L’Anse, and Gabe Popko from Lake Linden-Hubbell. Honorable mention votes went to L’Anse’s Trysten Muma, Lake Linden’s Hunter Moyle, Ontonagon’s Dyceson Drew, Ewen-Trout Creek’s Keegan Pietila, and Jeffers’ Trevor Halonen. See the full roster here.

College Basketball

Michigan Tech’s basketball teams have announced their 2023-2024 season schedules. The women’s team will open with home games against William Jewell and Lewis University the second weekend in November. The men will begin on the road at the Midwest Crossover Tournament at Wisconsin Dells, facing Missouri S&T and Upper Iowa that same weekend. Rivalry games for both teams against Northern Michigan are set for January 27th in Marquette and February 17th in Houghton.

NBA

The NBA Championship Series is tied at a win per team. The Heat will host the Nuggets in game three tomorrow night.

NHL

The Golden Knights drubbed the Panthers 7-2 last night. Vegas leads the Stanley Cup championship series 2-0, with game three in Florida Thursday.

MLB

The Tigers fell to the Phillies 8-3 last night. Detroit collected only three hits – one was a three-run homer by Nick Maton, which broke up a potential no-hitter by Aaron Nola in the seventh inning. Joey Wentz struggled into the fifth inning, and was charged with five runs.

The Tigers have lost four straight, and continue that series at Philadelphia tonight. Tyler Alexander will come out of the bullpen to start against Taijuan Walker. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers were held to just three hits in a 2-0 loss to the Reds. Julio Teheran suffered the tough loss, pitching into the seventh , and giving up both runs.

The Brewers host the Orioles tonight. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Kyle Gibson.

Milwaukee has brought infielder Luis Urías off the injured list. Mike Brosseau was sent to Nashville to make room.
