High School

In football Saturday…

  • Lake Linden-Hubbell came from behind to outscore Newberry 40-30. The Lakes trailed 30-121 early in the second half, before reeling off 28 straight points to claim the homecoming win. Travis Holbrook booted two successful onside kicks to support the effort. Nate St. Onge rushed for 111 yards and four touchdowns. Brady Axford completed 7 of 11 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown. Four of those completions went to Tyler Axford, for 144 yards. Newberry’s Matthew Rahilly rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

In high school volleyball Saturday…

  • Houghton at the Pulaski Tournament – no report. 

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team dissected Division III Wisconsin-Oshkosh 44-7 Saturday. Alex Fries threw three touchdown passes. The Tech ground game churned out 231 yards rushing. 

The Northern Michigan football squad suffered a 44-27 homecoming loss to Division III Alma College. The Scots opened up a 30-10 halftime lead, then sealed the win with two fourth quarter touchdowns.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team will host top-ranked Grand Valley State today at noon.

The NMU women’s soccer team will entertain Purdue Northwest today.

The Wildcats men’s team fell 2-1 at St. Cloud State Saturday.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team dropped a tight 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 12-15) decision at Parkside Saturday. Meg Raabe led the Huskies with 16 kills, and Rachel Zurek added 15. Tess Hayes had 49 assists and 16 digs.

The Northern volleyball team pulled out a narrow 3-2 (17-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, 15-8) victory over Purdue Northwest.

MLB

The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning, and earned a 6-4 victory over the Orioles Saturday. Riley Greene singled home Matt Vierling with the winning run, then scored an insurance marker on a Zach McKinstry sacrifice fly. Baltimore had tied the game with Gunnar Henderson’s two-run triple off Jason Foley in the bottom of the ninth. Beau Brieske relieved him, and earned the win.

The Tigers visit the Orioles again today. Detroit has not named a starter. Albert Suárez will pitch for Baltimore. Coverage will begin at 1:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

Saturday’s win was the 81st of the season, which means that Detroit will break its streak of seven-straight losing seasons. It moved the Tigers to within a half-game of the Twins in the race for the final American League wild card playoff berth. Minnesota was rained out at Boston Saturday, and will play a doubleheader against the Red Sox today. The Royals lost their sixth straight, and now hold just a half-game advantage over the Twins for the second wild card spot.

The Brewers collected just two hits in a 5-0 loss to the Diamondbacks.

The Brewers conclude that home set against the Diamondbacks today. Frankie Montas will pitch against Jordan Montgomery.

NFL

The Lions visit the Cardinals for a 4:25 game today on 99.3 The Lift. 

The Packers travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans today at 1:00. Quarterback Jordan Love is expected to miss his second straight game with a knee injury. Sean Clifford has been activated from the practice squad to back up Malik Willis.

The Falcons entertain the Chiefs in tonight’s contest on 99.3 The Lift.
