LL-H Falls at North Central – Sunday Sports Wrap

In high school football tournament play…

Lake Linden-Hubbell’s season ended with a 52-8 loss at North Central Saturday. The Jets took control early, when Alex Naser returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown. North Central then proceeded to core on every first-half possession – a two-yard run by quarterback Luke Gorzinski, a 15-yard run by Wyatt Raab, a 26 yard pass play to Ian Gorzinski, a 74-yard pass play to Nasar, a 42-yard pass play to Ian Gorzinski, and a 44-yard run by Nasar. By halftime, the score was 52-0. The Lakes’ touchdown came early in the third quarter, in a 77-yard run by Caleb Klein.

The Jets will face Cedarville in the regional final Friday night.

In other Upper Peninsula football tournament action…
• In Division Three, Marquette defeated Mount Pleasant 21-14. The Redmen will play at Muskegon for the district title next weekend.
• In Division Four, Sault Ste. Marie defeated Ludington 22-16 Friday night, and will play at Cadillac this Friday.
• In Division Five, Kingsford lost at Reed City 32-14 Saturday afternoon.
• In Division Six, Calumet defeated Menominee 29-14 Friday night. Negaunee ousted Westwood 42-14. The Copper Kings and Miners will host the Miners for the district title Friday evening. Hear the broadcast on KBear 102.3.
• In Division Eight, Iron Mountain crushed Gwinn 56-8 Friday night. On Saturday, Bark River-Harris eliminated West Iron County 22-6. The Broncos and Mountaineers will play for the District title Friday.
• In Eight-Player Division One, Newberry fell at Pickford 63-7. Pickford will host Inland Lakes for the Regional crown Friday.

MLB

New Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch continues to build his coaching staff. On Saturday, the team named Scott Coolbaugh as hitting coach, George Lombard as bench coach and Chip Hale as third base coach. Coolbaugh has been the White Sox’ assistant hitting coach, and has also been hitting coach for the Orioles and Rangers. Lombard is coming off five seasons as the Dodgers’ first base coach. He was an outfielder for the Tigers in 2002. Hale spent the last three seasons as bench coach for the Nationals, and has also managed the Diamondbacks.

NFL

The Lions visit the Vikings for a 1:00 game today. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list, but will need to pass another test this morning before he is cleared to play.

In the Sunday night contest, the Buccaneers host the Saints. In the Monday night game, the Patriots visit the Jets. Hear both broadcasts on 99.3 The Lift.
