LL-H Changes Saturday Opponent – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night, Chassell fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 3-1.

On the volleyball schedule tonight…
• Calumet visits Negaunee.
• Hancock plays at Westwood.
• Houghton journeys to Iron Mountain.
• Jeffers travels to L’Anse
• Lake Linden-Hubbell and Watersmeet play in a triangular at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City
• Chassell visits Bessemer.
• Ontonagon hosts Ewen-Trout Creek.

The Lake Linden-Hubbell football team has changed opponents this Saturday. Instead of hosting Newberry, they’ll entertain North Central at 2:00 at Warner Field. The Lakes were 2-0 before the suspension of face-to-face school activities forced them off the field two weeks ago. They had outscored their opponents 90-24. The Jets are 4-0, and have outscored their opponents 226-12. Newberry will play Carney-Nadeau.

MLB

The Rays defeated the Astros 4-2 last night, and took a 2-0 lead in the American League Championship Series.

The Braves downed the Dodgers 5-1 in the opening game of the National League Championship Series.

Both of those series continue this evening.

The Detroit Tigers will pick third in the next Major League Baseball draft. MLB finalized the standings yesterday. The Pirates will have the first pick, followed by the Rangers. The Brewers have the 15th pick. The 2021 draft will be held in July, in conjunction with All-Star Week.

NHL

Former Michigan Tech hockey player Joel L’Esperance has signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Dallas Stars. L’Esperance has appeared in 21 games for the Stars over the past two seasons and has three career NHL goals. He also recorded 40 points in 58 games with the AHL Texas Stars this past season.

NFL

In last night’s NFL contest, the Saints fell behind 20-3, then roared back to edge the Chargers 30-27 in overtime. Wil Lutz’s 36-yard field goal on the opening drive of overtime gave New Orleans the lead, and the Saints defense held San Diego to just four plays on the next drive to seal the win.

The Titans and Bills will play tonight, in a COVID-19-delayed game. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

Our high school football coverage resumes Friday, when Hancock hosts Calumet. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. We’ll also cover Houghton, Hancock and Calumet in the opening round of the WestPAC volleyball tournament Saturday, beginning at 9:40 on KBear 102.3.
