High School

Houghton faces Hancock in the hockey regional tournament championship game tonight at the SDC. Coverage will begin at 6:40, ahead of a 7:00 faceoff, on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.

In girls regular season basketball last night…
• Houghton defeated Ewen-Trout Creek 60-36. Clea Ollanketo had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Gremlins. Eva Gerard added 16 points, and Danica Ryynanen 10. Irelynd McGeshick scored 10 for the Panthers.
• Calumet lost at Iron Mountain 64-55.
• Hancock fell to West Iron County 35-29.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 57-41.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell stopped L’Anse 78-41. Cleo Milkey led all scorers with 31 points. Emily Jokela became the all-time leading scorer in Lakes history, passing Tyler Roose.

The Lakes finish their regular season with a record of 21-1.
• Jeffers defeated Chassell 43-21.
• Baraga shut down Ontonagon 56-21. The Vikings conclude their regular season with a record of 18-4.

In boys basketball district tournament semifinals tonight…
• In Division Three, Jeffers plays at Calumet at 6:00. Coverage begins at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. Ishpeming plays at Westwood in the other semifinal.
• In Division Four, District 98, Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City at 6:00. L’Anse plays at Chassell at 6:00.
• Division Four, District 97 – at Ewen-Trout Creek – Ontonagon faces Wakefield-Marenisco at 5:30, and Ironwood plays Ewen-Trout Creek at 7:00.

NHL

The Red Wings won their sixth straight game last night, with an 8-3 romp over the Capitals. Shayne Gostisbehere scored twice. Lucas Raymond, Joe Veleno, J.T. Compher, Robby Fabbri, Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin also found the net. Alex Lyon made 18 saves.

The Wings entertain the Islanders tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons picked up a rare win last night, 105-95 over the Bulls. Cade Cunningham scored 26 points. It was just the second time this season that Detroit held an opponent to less than 100 points.

The Pistons host the Cavaliers Friday. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Pistons have bought out the contract of Mike Muscala, who was one of two players obtained from the Wizards six weeks ago in exchange for Marvin Bagley III, Isaiah Livers and two second-round draft picks. The other player Detroit got in the transaction, Danilo Gallinari was released immediately after the trade. The Pistons did derive some salary cap benefits from the deal.

MLB

Half of the Tigers defeated the Blue Jays 6-4 in Grapefruit League play yesterday. Casey Mize pitched into the second inning, and gave up a run on two hits in his first game action in 22 months, following Tommy John and back surgeries. Colt Keith and Spencer Torkelson each hit two-run doubles. The other half of the Tigers lost to the Orioles 5-2. Zack McInstry homered.

The Tigers will face the Pirates this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start for Detroit.

The Brewers lost to the Angels 6-4 yesterday. Hoby Milner gave up three runs in the second inning, and took the loss. Sal Frelick had two hits, including a triple.

The Brewers will face the Cubs this afternoon. Rob Zastryzny will start.
