Lions Win Season-Opener in OT – Monday Sports Wrap

On the high school volleyball schedule this evening…

MLB

The Tigers trounced the Athletics 9-1 yesterday. Ty Madden took over from Beau Brieske in the second inning, and gave up a run on five hits while striking out seven over five innings. He earned his first major league win. Trey Sweeney had four hits, including a home run.

The Tigers take today off, and open a home set against the Rockies tomorrow. Keider Montero will start against Bradley Blalock. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers collected just three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Rockies yesterday. Freddy Peralta struggled into the fifth inning, giving up three runs on seven hits, and taking the loss. 

The Brewers also have today off, before visiting the Giants tomorrow night.

Milwaukee brought utility player Isaac Collins up from Nashville for last night’s game. He collected his first major league hit. Brewer Hicklen was sent down to make room. Collins became the 56th player used by the Brewers this season.

NFL

The Lions outlasted the Rams 26-20 in overtime last night. Detroit led by two touchdowns early in the third quarter. Los Angeles scored 17 points to take the lead with four minutes to go, but Jake Bates hit a 32-yard field goal in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime. David Montgomery’s one-yard plunge capped a 70-yard drive to win the game. Montgomery rushed for 91 yards in the game. Jameson Williams caught five passes for 121 yards, including a 52-yard scoring strike from Jared Goff.

In tonight’s NFL contest, the Jets visit the 49ers. Kickoff is at 8:20 on 99.3 The Lift.
