Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s hockey team lost 8-0 at fourth-ranked Adrian College yesterday. The Lions were outshot 51-13. Finlandia dropped an 8-1 decision to Concordia-Wisconsin Friday night.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings suffered their fourth straight loss last night, 3-2 to the Calgary Flames. Tomas Tatar put Detroit up early, but the Flames scored twice to take the lead. Anthony Mantha’s goal early in the third period tied the game, but Mikael Backlund scored the game-winner with eight minutes remaining. Jimmy Howard stopped 23 shots, and took the loss. The Wings will skate at Buffalo Wednesday night.
Detroit lost defenseman Alexey Marchenko to an upper body injury during the game. He’ll be evaluated today.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the Houston Rockets tonight.
NFL
Another week, another fourth-quarter comeback. Matthew Stafford woke up a struggling Detroit Lions’ offense in time to pull out a 26-19 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday. Detroit took the lead on Eric Ebron’s one-yard touchdown run, then engineered a time-consuming drive that resulted in a Matt Prater field goal with 26 seconds remaining for the final margin. The Vikings also won yesterday, and remain tied with the Lions for first place in the NFC North. Those teams will play Thursday afternoon on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The Green Bay Packers fell further off the pace with an ugly 42-24 loss to Washington last night. The game ended with a wild fourth quarter that saw Washington score three touchdowns, and Green Bay two. The Packers have lost four in a row, and trail the Lions and Vikings by two games in the NFC North.
