NFL

The Lions claimed the NFC North Division title and the top seed in the playoffs with a convincing 31-9 victory over the Vikings last night. Detroit led 10-6 at halftime, then pulled away with three touchdowns in the second half, while holding Minnesota to just one more field goal. Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns, and also caught a TD pass from Jared Goff.

As the top seed in the NFC, the Lions will have a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Cairo Santos’ 51-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Bears to a 24-22 victory over the Packers yesterday afternoon. Green Bay had taken a one-point lead less than a minute earlier, on a 55-yard Brandon McManus kick.

The Packers may have lost more than just the game. Quarterback Jordan Love left the field with an elbow injury in the second quarter, just after receiver Christian Watson left the contest with a knee injury. Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur said Love was held out as a precaution, and did throw a few practice passes along the sideline late in the game. Watson’s injury may be more serious. He had to be carted into the locker room.

With a regular-season record of 11-6, Green Bay will be the seventh seed in the NFC playoffs, and will open at Philadelphia Sunday afternoon at 4:30.
