Lions Punch Pack; Brewers Punch Ticket – Monday Sports Wrap

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team overwhelmed Mount Mary 9-0 yesterday. Kirsten L’Esperance and Daisia Knowles each scored twice. L’Esperance set a school record with five assists. The Lions launched 76 shots, with 36 on goal.

MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Davenport University yesterday. Gabby Sgambati scored the Huskies’ only goal.

MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers advanced to the National League Championship Series by blanking the Colorado Rockies 6-0 yesterday. Orlando Arcia, Keon Broxton and Jesús Aguilar homered. Wade Miley and five relievers held the Rockies to just four hits. In the three-game sweep, Colorado scored in just one inning.

The Atlanta Braves remained alive in the other National League Divisional Series by edging the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5. L-A leads that set two games to one. Game Four will be played in Atlanta this afternoon.

Both American League Divisional Series resume today. Houston plays at Cleveland this afternoon – the Astros lead that set two games to none. The Yankees host the Red Sox tonight – that series is tied at a win per team.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 last night. Anthony Mantha and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit. Jonathan Bernier stopped 21 shots. The Wings visit the Anaheim Ducks tonight. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will begin at 9:35 on KBear 102.3.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons continue their preseason schedule tonight at home against the Brooklyn Nets. Listen for selected Pistons regular-season games on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
The Detroit Lions took advantage of Green Bay mistakes, and defeated the Packers 31-23 yesterday. Detroit built a 24-0 halftime lead. Matthew Stafford tossed two touchdown passes, and LaGarrette Blount rushed for two scores. Kerryon Johnson ran for 70 yards, but left the game in the second half with an ankle injury. It’s not believed to be serious. Aaron Rodgers threw for 442 yards and three touchdowns, but Green Bay turned the ball over three times, and Mason Crosby missed four field goals and an extra point.

In last night’s game, the Houston Texans edged the Dallas Cowboys 19-16.
