Nordic Skiing

The U.S. Cross Country Ski National Championships begin this morning. Around 500 of the best young skiers in the nation will begin competing at 9:30 on the Tech Trails. The three National Championship events are the skate 10K interval start distance race today, the classic sprint on Wednesday, and the classic 10/20K mass start distance race on Friday. The week concludes with the SuperTour skate sprint on Saturday.

Yesterday…
• The Lions gave up a touchdown on the opening drive, then roared back to torch the Bears 41-10. Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes and no interceptions. Jamaal Williams rushed for 144 yards, and D’Andre Swift added 78. Chicago quarterback Justin Fields ran for 132 yards, but completed only seven passes, and was sacked seven times.
• The Packers pounded the Vikings 41-14. Green Bay’s defense held Minnesota to just a field goal over the first three quarters. Aaron Jones rushed for 111 yards. Keisean Nixon returned a kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown. Darnell Savage returned an interception 75 yards for a score.
• Kenny Pickett’s touchdown pass to Najee Harris in the final minute lifted the Steelers to a 16-13 win over the Ravens in the Sunday night contest.

The Bengals host the Bills in the Monday night game on 99.3 The Lift.

Yesterday’s games helped clarify the playoff possibilities, with one week left in the regular season. Only the Packers, Lions and Seahawks can qualify for the final NFC wild card berth. Green Bay gets in if they defeat Detroit next week. Detroit gets in if they beat Green Bay, and if Seattle loses to the Rams. Seattle gets in if they defeat the Rams, and Green Bay loses to Detroit.
