High School

The Lake Linden-Hubbell football team will open the Eight-Player Division Two playoffs Saturday at home against Forest Park. The Lakes are seeded second in their region. Kickoff will take place at 1:30 at Warner Field. Top-seeded Posen will host North Central in the other regional semifinal. The Lakes are the only local team to earn a place in the playoffs this year. They lost to the Trojans 36-28 during the regular season.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team got past Purdue Northwest 2-1 yesterday. Alyvia Sanom and Julia Pietila each scored their first goals of the season for the Huskies.

The Northern women’s team blanked Parkside 3-0 yesterday.

The Northern men’s team concluded its regular season with a 2-2 draw against Saint Cloud State yesterday afternoon. The Wildcats are seeded sixth in the GLIAC playoffs, and will open this coming weekend at third-seeded Davenport University.

NHL

Alex DeBrincat’s hat trick powered the Red Wings to a 6-2 victory over the Flames yesterday. Joe Veleno, Dylan Larkin and Jake Walman also scored for Detroit. James Reimer stopped 29 shots.

The Wings have won five straight, and will host the Kraken tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 8:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

In the American League Championship Series, the Rangers routed the Astros 9-2 yesterday. That series is tied 3-3, and will be decided in Houston tonight.

The National League Championship Series resumes tonight, as the Phillies host the Diamondbacks. Philadelphia leads that set 3-2.

NFL

The Lions’ bandwagon lost a couple of wheels yesterday in an ugly 38-6 loss to the Ravens. The Baltimore defense held Detroit scoreless until Jahmyr Gibbs’ 21-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter – his first in the NFL. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

The Packers lost to the Broncos 19-17. Will Lutz’ late field goal put Denver on top, and the Broncos then intercepted a Jordan Love pass to seal the win.

The Eagles stopped the Dolphins 31-17 last night.

The Vikings host the 49ers in tonight’s game on 99.3 The Lift.
