Twilight League

The annual Leo Durocher Memorial Baseball Tournament is being played this weekend at the Stanton Field. Pool competition continued last night, as Houghton Building Supply-Stanton bombed REL-Mohawk Tech 12-5.

• REL-Mohawk Technology meets the Channing Railroaders at 1:15.
• Garnet Garage faces Northern Driveline at 3:30.
• The Channing Railroaders play Houghton Building Supply-Stanton at 5:45.

The semifinal and championship games will be played tomorrow afternoon.

Portage Lake Little League is hosting the Minors District Baseball Tournament at the South Range field. In opening-round games today…
• Marquette takes on Ishpeming at 11:00.
• Negaunee faces Portage Lake at 1:00.

MLB

Shohei Otani’s ground rule double off Tyler Holton in the top of the ninth inning gave the Dodgers a 4-3 victory over the Tigers last evening. The late loss spoiled another good start by Tarik Skubal, who allowed two runs on two hits over six innings. Riley Greene doubled home two runs for Detroit.

The Tigers host the Dodgers again this afternoon. Keider Montero will start against Justin Wrobleski. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit has called outfielder Ryan Vilade up from Toledo. Akil Baddoo, who is hitting just .117 with the Tigers this season, has been sent down.

The Brewers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Nationals last evening. Freddy Peralta struggled through five innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits. Sal Frelick had three hits for Milwaukee.

The Brewers entertain the Nationals again this afternoon. Dallas Keuchel will pitch against Mitchell Parker.

Milwaukee has activated Joey Ortiz from the injured list. Vinny Capra has been sent back to Nashville.

NBA

With new head coach J.B.Bickerstaff officially on board, the Pistons are filling out the rest of their coaching staff. Reports say that Luke Walton will be brought in as lead assistant. His resume includes head coaching jobs with the Lakers and Kings. Additional reports indicate that Kevin Burleson will also sign on as an assistant. He’s spent the last two years as head coach of the Rockets’ G League affiliate.

High School

The Hancock High School hockey team will hold a returnables drive at the Laurn Grove rink today. Drop your donations off between 9 and 1.

Roller Derby

Keweenaw Roller Derby will host Mid-State Roller Derby from Stevens Point tonight at the Colosseum. Doors open at 5, and skating begins at 6. Tickets are just $5 (cash or card) and children under 10 get in free.
