High School
In high school hockey last night…
• Jeffers and Calumet skated to a 6-6 tie. Britt Heinonen and Kaleb Bianco each had two goals for the Jets, who move to 5-1-1 on the season. Calumet continues to look for its first win, at 0-5-2.
• Hancock broke a 2-2 tie with three third-period goals, and outskated Escanaba 5-2. Todd Kilpela scored twice for the Bulldogs, with both tallies coming the final stanza. Ted Heinonen scored Hancock’s first two goals, and Brady Axford also found the net. Daniel Wroblewski got the win in goal, as the Bulldogs outshot the Eskymoes 50-25.
In girls high school basketball last evening…
• Houghton defeated West Iron County 57-31. The Gremlins led by seven at halftime, then outscored the Wykons 19-7 in the third quarter when they rolled out a full-court defense. Clea Ollenkato led Houghton with 21 points – 14 in the first half. Danica Ryynanen added 17 – 14 in the second half.
• Hancock lost to Negaunee 62-23.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Jeffers 59-32.
• Chassell fell to Bessemer 43-41.
• L’Anse defeated Forest Park 36-33.
• Baraga cruised past Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 70-18.
• Ewen-Trout Creek shut down Ontonagon 52-15.
In boys games last night…
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City defeated Baraga 51-37.
• Ewen-Trout Creek shaded Ontonagon 63-60.
The Houghton High School swim team competes at Marquette today.
The youth Frozen Cup hockey tournament continues today, with games at Meadowbrook Arena and the Baraga Ice Rink. See yesterday’s results and today’s schedules here.
The Hancock-Lake Linden-Jeffers JV hockey team will hold a returnables drive at the HoCo this morning from 9:00 until noon. Proceeds will help cover ice time costs.

The Pistons’ losing streak swelled to 22 games last night, with a lackluster 124-92 loss to the 76ers. James Wiseman came off the bench to score 20 points and snare 13 rebounds. The 22-game losing streak is now the worst all-time for Detroit, breaking the previous mark, which was set across two seasons in early and late 1980.
The Pistons visit the Bucks this evening.
NFL
The Lions host the Broncos tonight in an 8:15 contest, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift. We’ll also broadcast today’s 12:30 game between the Vikings and Bengals, and the 4:15 contest between the Colts and Steelers.
The Packers welcome the Buccaneers in a 1:00 game tomorrow. Running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon are both listed as questionable.
MLB
Reliever Trey Wingenter is returning to the Tigers. Wingenter signed a minor league deal with a spring training invitation. It’s similar to the deal he signed last season, which led to 17 major league appearances, around time spent on the injured list with a shoulder problem.
