Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
The Michigan Tech volleyball team begins play in the NCAA Division II tournament this afternoon at 1:00. The sixth-seeded Huskies will take on third-seed Missouri-Saint Louis at Lewis University in suburban Chicago.
Both MTU basketball teams will host Saginaw Valley State University in their GLIAC openers this evening. The women’s game will begin at 5:30, and the men’s contest at 7:30. Tonight is Huskies Lend A Paw to Big Brothers Big Sisters-UP Kids night. Both teams will wear warm-up T-shirts that will be auctioned off in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can bid on the shirts at the teams’ Facebook pages, or at the SDC tonight.
Both Northern Michigan University basketball teams will entertain Northwood University tonight.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team earned a 56-55 come-from-behind victory over Viterbo University last evening. The Lions opened a big early lead, but then went cold, and trailed by seven at halftime. A fourth-quarter surge brought FinnU back. Harlee Froberg sank two free throws with six seconds remaining to secure the win. Katie Lundeen led the Lions with 17 points.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings are off until they host the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons lost 127-103 to the Milwaukee Bucks last night. Detroit played without Luke Kennard, who is battling tendinitis in both knees. Andre Drummond led the team with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
The Pistons host the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
