MLB

The Tigers have decided not to pick up their contract option for next season on pitcher Casey Mize. He will remain with the team, however, and will be eligible for contract arbitration. Detroit also brought shortstop Javier Báez and pitchers Alex Faedo, Sawyer Gipson-Long and Brendan White back from the injured list, and removed Bligh Madris, Bryan Sammons and Ryan Vilade. All three have cleared waivers, and been assigned to the Mud Hens.

Brewers general manager Matt Arnold has been named Major League Baseball’s Executive of the Year, in voting by his peers.

The Brewers declined Colin Rea’s club option, and Frankie Montas declined his half of a mutual option yesterday, as Milwaukee made a bunch of roster moves. The Crew cut ties with first baseman Jake Bauers and pitcher Bryse Wilson – they will become free agents. They also waived relievers Kevin Herget and Rob Zastryzny. Herget was claimed by the Mets, and Zastryzny by the Cubs. And, Milwaukee extended a $21 million qualifying offer to shortstop Willy Adames for next season. He’s expected to get a better deal from a bigger-market team.

NFL

In last night’s game, Patrick Mahomes’ third touchdown pass of the night gave the Chiefs a 30-24 overtime victory over the Buccaneers.
