High School
In high school hockey last night, Reid Pietila and Wyatt Liston each scored a pair of goals as Houghton spoiled Jeffers’ senior night with a 7-1 victory. Alex Sears scored the lone goal for the Jets.
In girls’ high school basketball last night, Dollar Bay edged Baraga 25-22.
There are a couple of girls’ make-up games tonight…
– Chassell hosts Watersmeet.
– Jeffers welcomes Republic-Michigamme.
In boys’ action last night…
– In a battle between the first-place teams in the WestPAC and the Copper Country Conference, Lake Linden-Hubbell continued its unbeaten season with a 72-62 victory over Houghton. Brett Poissant scored 30 for the Lakes.
– Jeffers shut down Calumet 40-20.
– Hancock edged Dollar Bay 54-52.
– Baraga defeated Chassell 70-47.
– L’Anse outscored Ontonagon 70-51.
– Ewen-Trout Creek beat Watersmeet 73-59.
NHL – Red Wings Blanked by Kings
The Detroit Red Wings fell to the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 last night. Jonas Gustavsson made his first start in goal for Detroit since November 5th, and stopped 26 of 27 shots to take a hard-luck loss. The Wings play at San Jose tomorrow night. Face-off is at 10:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NBA – Pistons Fall to Cavs
The Detroit Pistons lost to the Cavaliers 102-93 last night. Reggie Williams led Detroit with 22 points. The Pistons entertain the Knicks Friday night. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
MLB – Tigers Re-sign Chamberlain
The Detroit Tigers have re-signed reliever Joba Chamberlain to a one-year deal. Chamberlain joined the club last season, and did a creditable job in the bullpen. To make room for Chamberlain on the 40-man roster, the Tigers designated reliever Chad Smith for assignment.
Portage Lake LL Registration
Portage Lake Little League will hold registration for 2015 season tonight from 5:00 until 8:00 at the Houghton Elementary School. You can also register online here.
Chassell Ice Fishing Tourney Scheduled
The eighth annual Chassell Ice Fishing Tournament will be held on Portage Lake and Chassell Bay Saturday. The adult tournament runs from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The entry fee is $15.00. Prizes will be offered in the pike/walleye division, and the crappie/perch division. The youth tournament for kids up to age 15 runs from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. There is no charge. Sign up in advance at the VFW Hall in Chassell. Registration will also be open Saturday morning from 7:00 until 10:00.
