Lakes, Kings Football Playoff Pairings Announced – Monday Sports Wrap

Calumet Lake Linden LogosWestPAC football champion Calumet will open the Division Six playoffs Saturday against the Boyne City Ramblers. It’s a rematch against the team they lost to in the District final last year. Kickoff will be at 1:00 at Agassiz Field. Unbeaten Mid-Eastern Conference champion Lake Linden-Hubbell will host North Dickinson Saturday at 1:00. The Lakes defeated the Nordics 24-6 on October 15th. We’ll broadcast both games on our Houghton Community Broadcasting stations.

In other playoff pairings involving Upper Peninsula teams…
– In Division Four, Escanaba will host Whitehall.
– In Division Five, Menominee will entertain Kalkaska.
– In Division Six, Negaunee will host Charlevoix. The winner will face the winner of the Calumet – Boyne City game in the District final.
– In Division Seven, Gwinn will play at Iron Mountain.
– In Division Eight, West Iron County will play at Norway. The winner will face the winner of the Lake Linden-Hubbell – North Dickinson game in the District final. St. Ignace will entertain Hillman, and Newberry will host Gaylord St. Mary.
– In the eight-man playoffs, Rapid River will play at North Central, and Forest Park will host Stephenson in Region One. In Region Two, Cedarville will play at Engadine.

The MTU soccer team shut out Tiffin 2-0 yesterday. The Huskies dominated the game with 18 shots on goal. The Dragons had just one. The win guaranteed Tech home field advantage in the opening round of the GLIAC tournament.

The Detroit Red Wings host the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Matthew Stafford’s touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin with 16 seconds remaining lifted the Detroit Lions to a 20-17 victory over Washington yesterday. The winning play came less than a minutes after Washington had taken the lead on a 19-yard touchdown run by quarterback Kirk Cousins. The Lions have won three straight.

In last night’s game, the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals played to a 6-6 overtime tie.
