High School
In the high school volleyball regional semifinals last night…
– In Division Four, Lake Linden-Hubbell’s season ended with a 3-1 loss to Munising.
– In Division Three, Calumet dropped a hard-fought 3-1 (26-24, 27-29, 19-25, 22-25) decision to Manistique.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s basketball team will defeated Gogebic Community College 77-61 in an exhibition match last night. Four Lions scored in double figures, with Dylan Underwood connecting for 20, and Dollar Bay’s Jaden Janke for 15.

MTU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team opens the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament tonight. The second-seeded Huskies will host seventh-seed Grand Valley State University at 7:00 at the SDC.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings spotted Vancouver a two-goal lead, then came back to edge the Canucks 3-2 in a shootout last night. Justin Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist scored in regulation for Detroit. Dylan Larkin scored the only goal in the shootout. Jimmy Howard made 40 saves. The Wings entertain the New York Rangers Friday. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

NFL
The Green Bay Packers have placed safety Jermaine Whitehead on waivers. Whitehead was expected to get more playing time following the recent trade of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, but he was ejected from Sunday’s loss to the Patriots.

The Detroit Lions have waived running back Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah was once considered Detroit’s running back of the future, but lost his job when the team signed LeGarrette Blount, and drafted Kerryon Johnson.

Veterans Run/Walk
Dollar Bay-Tamarack City High School is holding a 5K run/3K walk on Saturday. Registration opens at 9:00, and the event starts at 10:30. The cost is $15.00, and proceeds will support local veterans organizations. Registration forms are available at the high school office or online here.
