MLB – Tigers Fall Despite Simon’s Complete Game
The Detroit Tigers lost to the Chicago White Sox 2-1 last night. In what might have been his final game as a Tiger, Alfredo Simon went the distance, giving up just five hits. Detroit’s only run came on a homer by Jefry Marte. Details are here.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Chicago Cubs 6-1 last night. Khris Davis homered for Milwaukee. Ariel Pena was charged with four runs before leaving the game in the fifth inning. Details are here.

– Unbeaten Lake Linden-Hubbell scored on its first three possessions, and cruised to a 42-6 victory at Hancock. The Lakes become the first Copper Country team to secure a berth in the playoffs. See video highlights from the game here.
– Calumet scored 40 unanswered points in the second half, and came from behind to defeat West Iron County 40-22.

– L’Anse crushed winless Ironwood 57-8.

The result of the Team Copper Country U18 hockey squad game against the Soo Michigan U18 team Friday night was not reported. Team CC will host Soo again this morning at 9:00. Team CC will entertain the Minnesota Northern Wings AAA team tonight night at 7:00 and tomorrow morning at 10:00. All games will be played at the SDC.

The MTU volleyball team lost a tight 3-0 (25-22, 25-23 and 25-21) match at Findlay Friday night, Details are here. The Huskies will play at Hillsdale this afternoon.
The MTU women’s tennis team hosts Wayne State this morning at 10:00, and Hillsdale tomorrow morning.
The Michigan Tech football team has the weekend off. The Northern Michigan University football team entertains Saginaw Valley State this afternoon.

The Finlandia men’s soccer team edged Grace Bible College 1-0 Saturday afternoon. Alex Freeman scored in his fourth straight match for the Lions. Details are here. Finlandia will host Robert Morris-Springfield tomorrow at 10:00.
At a triangular at North Central University yesterday, the Finlandia University volleyball team lost to the University of Northwestern 3-0 (16-25, 9-25, 10-25). Game details are here. The Lions then fell to the host team 3-0 (21-25, 22-25, 13-25). Game details are here. The Lions will play another triangular at Crown College today, with matches against the host team in the morning, and Trinity Bible College in the afternoon.
The Finlandia football team will entertain Maranatha Baptist University this afternoon at 2:00.

The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 preseason NHL action last night. Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist, and Jimmy Howard stopped 33 shots. Game details are here. The Wings wrap up their preseason schedule tonight at home against the Leafs.

The Green Bay Packers visit the San Francisco 49ers in a Sunday late-afternoon game. The Detroit Lions visit the Seattle Seahawks in the Monday night game.
