High School
In high school hockey last night…
– Calumet suffered a 4-3 overtime loss at Escanaba. The Copper Kings fell behind early, but scored three power play goals in the third period to tie the contest. Tyler Loukus had two of those goals, and appeared to have scored the game-winner in the closing minutes, but referees waived it off. Levi Wunder’s power play goal just 24 seconds into the overtime won it for the Eskymos.

– L’Anse plays at Jeffers at 1:00.
– Calumet hosts Negaunee at 3:00 in that make-up game from yesterday.
In girls’ high school basketball Friday night, Houghton fell to unbeaten Marquette 49-40.
In boys’ play last night…
– Lake Linden-Hubbell remained unbeaten with a 53-30 win over Jeffers. The victory clinched the third straight Copper Country Conference title for the Lakes.
– Calumet shut down Chassell 60-28.
– Hancock defeated Ontonagon 62-54. The Bulldogs led by 14 at halftime, and survived a 24-point scoring outburst in the third quarter by the Gladiators to claim the win.
– Houghton lost at Escanaba 77-61.
– L’Anse dumped West Iron County 62-38.
– Dollar Bay lost to Republic-Michigamme 45-39
MTU Hoops Plays at LSSU
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams visit Lake Superior State today. The Michigan Tech hockey team has the weekend off.
NMU Hockey Edged Bowling Green
Ryan Kesti’s goal in overtime lifted the Northern Michigan University hockey team to a 3-2 victory at Bowling Green Friday night. Those teams play again tonight.
Both Northern Michigan University basketball teams play at Northwood today.
Finlandia
The Finlandia women’s hockey team wrapped up a winless season with a 6-1 loss to St. Norbert Friday night. Jena Kosley scored the Lions’ only goal. Finlandia finishes the season 0-21.
The Lions’ women’s basketball team closes its regular season this afternoon at Mount Mary University.
GLHL
In Great Lakes Hockey League play, the Portage Lake Pioneers defeated the West Bend Bombers 5-2 Friday night. The Pioneers host the Mosinee Papermakers tonight at 7:30 at Dee Stadium. The Calumet Wolverines edged Mosinee 3-2 Friday night. Jeff Erkkila scored the game-winner in the final two minutes. The Wolverines host West Bend tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
NHL – Red Wings Prepare for Stars
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Dallas tonight. Face-off is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY. The Wings will be without defenseman Kyle Quincy, who suffered a lower body injury during practice yesterday. There’s no word as to how long Quincey will be out. Jakub Kindl has been called up from Grand Rapids to fill in.
NBA – Pistons Beat Bulls
The short-handed Detroit Pistons defea
ted the Chicago Bulls 100-91 Friday night. Detroit traded four players to get Reggie Jackson and Tayshaun Prince on Thursday, but the trade came too late for Jackson and Prince to be made eligible for Friday’s game. Spencer Dinwiddie, who was expecting to be sent back to the Grand Rapids Drive before the game, wound up starting at point guard. He responded with 12 points and nine assists, while holding Chicago point guard Derrick Rose to just eight points. Greg Monroe and Caron Butler each scored 20 for Detroit, and Andre Drummond finished with 18 points and 20 rebounds.
The Pistons host the Wizards on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is at 3:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
