High School
In Class D boys basketball last night, Lake Linden-Hubbell advanced to the Regional final with a 60-42 victory over Forest Park. The Lakes led by six at halftime. They extended the lead to double digits early in the second half, and sealed the win with some excellent free throw shooting in the closing minutes. Tyler Roose led all scorers with 20 points. Brett Poissant added 18, and Arthur Lyons scored 17. The unbeaten Lakes will take on unbeaten North Central in the Regional final. The Jets edged Munising 48-44 last night. The Calumet girls face Tawas in the Class C quarterfinal game tonight at 7:00 at Petoskey.
MTU
The Michigan Tech hockey team remains fourth in the nation in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Huskies are seeded second in the WCHA tournament, and will face Bowling Green in the semifinals Friday night in Saint Paul.
Finlandia
The Finlandia women’s basketball team has added former Westwood guard Gabby Hebert to next year’s team. Hebert was a three-year starter for the Patriots. She averaged eight points, eight assists, four steals and three rebounds per game this season.
NHL – Red Wings Idle
The Detroit Red Wings are off until Thursday, when they visit the Panthers. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NBA – Pistons Prepare for Memphis
The Detroit Pistons host the Grizzlies tonight. Andre Drummond is expected to play. He left Saturday’s game after taking a blow to the head, but has cleared the concussion protocol. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
MLB
David Price struck out five through four scoreless innings, but the Tigers lost to the Cardinals 1-0 yesterday. The Tigers face the Nationals this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and will play the Padres this afternoon.
