The Detroit Tigers outslugged the Chicago White Sox 11-8 last night. Detroit poured it on early, scoring 10 of their runs in the first four innings. Justin Upton drove in four of those runs. J.D. Martinez had three hits, and scored three runs. Miguel Cabrera had four hits, and Ian Kinsler legged out two triples. Jordan Zimmermann gave up six runs, but hung on for eight innings, and earned his ninth win of the season.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the San Francisco Giants 3-2 last night. Matt Garza made his first start of the season for the Brewers, after a lengthy stay on the disabled list. He was rusty, giving up eight hits over four innings, but just one run. The Giants scored the winning run in the seventh, when Angel Pagan scampered home on a wild pitch from Will Smith. Jonathan Lucroy homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers wrap up that set at San Francisco this afternoon. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Johnny Cueto.

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last night…
– Wolverine-Orbit doubled up Pat’s Food-Mosquito Inn 10-5. Mike Saari had three hits, scored twice, and drove in two runs for Wolverine.
– Superior National Bank-Stanton defeated the Copper Country Miners 8-2. Tyler LaDuron went the distance for the win for Stanton. He struck out 15, and also had three hits and drove in three runs.
Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball
In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball play tonight, Superior National Bank will meet Mattila Rock and Dock at 5:30, and Northern Michigan Land Brokers at 7:15 at the Houghton High School field.
Longest Day Fishing Tournament
The annual Longest Day Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday in Copper Harbor. Fishing will take place on the waters of Lac La Belle, Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor and Lake Medora. No boat is permitted more than five miles from the Lake Superior Shoreline. Bridgefest Tennis Tourney
Tomorrow is the deadline to sign up for the Bridgefest Doubles Tennis Tournament. The tournament will be held Saturday at the Laurn Grove court. The first match will start at 10:00 am, and each team is guaranteed at least two games. The entry fee is $10.00 per team. Sign up at the Copper Island Beach Club.
Gordie Howe Funeral Today
The funeral service for hockey legend Gordie Howe will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. The service will be streamed live by Fox Sports Detroit, and also on the Red Wings’ website.
