MLB – Tigers
Ian Kinsler’s second home run of the game lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. Kinsler gave Detroit an early lead with a solo shot in the first inning. He then hit a 96-miles-per-hour fastball from Mark Lowe over the left field fence with Jose Iglesias on base to bring the Tigers from behind in the eighth. Alfredo Simon gave up all four Seattle runs before leaving in the sixth inning. Al Alburquerque got the win in relief, and Joakim Soria pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his 21st save.
The Tigers continue that home set against the Mariners tonight. Shane Greene will start against Taijuan Walker. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
With the Tigers nine-and-a-half games behind the Royals in the American League Central, and four games out of the wild card playoff chase, there are reports that the team may be considering letting go of some high profile players. Pitcher David Price and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will be free agents after this season. Each would command a high price in a trade to a contending team. Joakim Soria, Alex Avila, Alfredo Simon and Rajai Davis will also become free agents, and could attract interest. With the non-waiver trade deadline 10 days away, general manager Dave Dombrowski told USA Today that the team has not yet decided how it will proceed.
The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Cleveland Indians in an interleague series beginning tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Danny Salazar.
