The Carolina Hurricanes scored twice in the third period, and defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 last night. The Wings host the Ottawa Senators Friday night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Hancock native Tanner Kero has been called up to the Chicago Blackhawks. The former MTU captain had eight points in five games with the Rockford IceHogs this season. Kero’s first game will be tomorrow night as the Hawks host the Winnipeg Jets. Blackhawks games are broadcast on WGN Radio AM-720, which often can be picked up in the Copper Country at night.

The Detroit Pistons opened their regular season with a 106-94 victory over the Atlanta Hawks last night. All five Detroit starters reached double figures in scoring, led by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope with 21 points. Andre Drummond grabbed 19 rebounds. The Pistons host the Utah Jazz in their home opener tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
