Kings Raise Banner, Pound Hematites – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School
In girls high school basketball last night, the members of the 2015 Calumet team reunited as their state championship banner was raised at the CLK gym. The 2016 Copper Kings celebrated by pounding Ishpeming 61-27. Clara Loukus scored 17 points, and Hailey Wickstrom added 16 points and 13 rebounds.

In boys play last night, L’Anse lost to Westwood 60-25.

NHL
The New Jersey Devils scored three goals in the first period, and skated past the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 last night. Jimmy Howard was pulled after giving up the third goal, and Petr Mrazek finished the game. Dylan Larkin, Mike Green and Riley Sheahan scored for Detroit. The Wings are off until Saturday, when they’ll skate at Nashville.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons came from 18 points down to edge the Miami Heat 93-92 last night. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s jumper with 55 seconds remaining was the game winner. Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 18 points. The Pistons play at Atlanta tonight. Tip-off is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NFL
Three Green Bay Packers have been named to the Pro Bowl. Linebacker Clay Matthews will be making his sixth appearance. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is going for the fifth time, and guard Josh Sitton earned his third honor.

The Detroit Lions placed two players on the Pro Bowl team. Receiver Calvin Johnson will make his sixth appearance, and defensive end Ziggy Ansah will make his first.
