High School Football
In high school football last night…
– Brandon Koski hit Michael Anderson with a 38-yard touchdown pass, as L’Anse edged Houghton 8-6. Koski also connected with Anderson on the two-point conversion that provided the winning margin. The touchdown came with eight minutes remaining in the second quarter, and was the final play before lightning forced a lengthy delay in the game. After action resumed, Houghton’s Sam Collaer scored on a one-yard plunge, but the two-point conversion attempt failed. The Gremlins had a late scoring opportunity, but L’Anse’s Andre Richard foiled it with an acrobatic interception. The weather wasn’t the only challenge the teams faced during the game – the scoreboard at Alumni Field failed, as did one bank of lights, which left the western goal line in shadows. See highlights from the game here.
– Robbie Erkkila ran for two touchdowns, and caught a pass for another, as Calumet ripped Northland Pines 44-20. Quarterback Russ Bjorn also hit Sam Kariniemi with a touchdown pass, and ran for a TD.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell crushed Three Lakes 53-0.
– Baraga began its first eight-man season with a 54-0 win at Pellston.
