In the boys high school basketball regional semifinals last night…
– In Class C at Escanaba… Calumet’s season ended with a 59-49 loss to Westwood. The Copper Kings trailed by just two points at the end of the first quarter, but the Patriots built a nine-point halftime lead, which they stretched to 14 at the end of the third quarter. Matt Ojala led Calumet with 13 points. Westwood’s Connor Hanlon led all scorers with 22.

– In Class D at Negaunee… Lake Linden-Hubbell closed its season with a 79-54 loss to unbeaten defending state champion North Central.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons were wiped out by the Washington Wizards 124-81 last night. Washington led by 19 at the end of the first quarter, after Detroit missed 13 of its first 15 shots. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the Pistons with 18 point. The Pistons will host the Hawks tomorrow night. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Detroit Red Wings will visit the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. Highly-regarded prospect Anthony Mantha is expected to make his Detroit debut, after having been called up from Grand Rapids. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

In spring training baseball, the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Mets 9-2 yesterday. J.D. Martinez and Mike Aviles each homered and drove in three runs. Starter Daniel Norris gave up a run over two innings. The Tigers face Atlanta this afternoon. Hear the game at 1:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Detroit designated hitter Victor Martinez left yesterday’s game with what is being described as a “mild hamstring strain.” Team officials say they expect him to miss a few days.

The Milwaukee Brewers dropped a 6-2 decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday. Wily Peralta gave up five runs in the first inning. The Brewers have today off.

NFL
Green Bay Packers defensive tackle B.J. Raji will sit next season out. Raji is a free agent who has played all of his seven seasons in Green Bay. He released a statement yesterday saying that he does not have a “total commitment” to football at this time. He did not rule out a return in the future.
