Kings Girls Cruise Past Redettes – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

In girls high school basketball last night, Calumet defeated Marquette 68-42. Marybeth Halonen led the Copper Kings with 21 points, and Elli Djerf added 19.

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Northwood this evening.

Finlandia University

The Finlandia University women’s basketball team downed Bay College 68-54 last evening. Carsyn Osterman led the Lions with 21 points, and Taylor Pertile chipped in 19.

The Finlandia men’s team lost 99-72 to the Norse. Joe Heinonen scored 20 for FinnU, and Devin Moultrie added 17.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings return to action when they visit the New York Rangers tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost to the Brooklyn Nets 125-115 last night. Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 23 points, and Derrick Rose added 22. The Pistons welcome the Toronto Raptors tomorrow night.

MLB

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Luis Urías is recovering from surgery to repair a broken bone in his left hand. Urías was obtained in a trade with the San Diego Padres last fall to compete for the starting job. With an estimated recovery period of up to eight weeks, he could open the season on the disabled list.

There are multiple reports that Milwaukee has signed a one-yer deal with veteran reliever David Phelps. Phelps posted a 3.41 earned run average with the Blue Jays and Cubs last season, after missing the 2018 campaign because of Tommy John surgery.
