High School

In high school volleyball last evening…

• Calumet spoiled Houghton’s Senior Night 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 26-24). Allie Bjorn led the Copper Kings with 19 kills and 3 aces; Sienna Anderson had 8 kills and 12 digs; Jackie Kiilunen 4 kills, 20 digs and 3 blocks; Bella Coppo 21 assists; and Jess Anderson 2 aces and 18 digs.
• Hancock swept Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-0 (25-12, 27-25, 25-16). Cleo Milkey had 8 kills and 7 digs; Ashlyn Steves 16 digs; and Payton Goldsworthy 12 assists.
• L’Anse dispatched Bessemer 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-18).
• Ontonagon blanked Chassell 3-0 (25-6, 25-19, 25-20). For the Panthers, Oriana Olson had 7 kills and 1 ace; Dusty Lippold 6 kills, 7 digs and 1 ace; Elli Kuntze had 5 kills, 7 digs and 1 ace; and Sylvia Aho 15 assists.
• Baraga fell to Ironwood 3-0.

NHL

The Red Wings blanked the Islanders 1-0 last night. Detroit mustered just 10 shots on goal, but Patrick Kane found the net in the first period, and Alex Lyon made 29 saves.

The Wings entertain the Devils tomorrow. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, Wings coverage will start at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.

NBA

The Pistons open the regular season tonight at home against the Pacers. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Youth Soccer

Houghton FC will hold its annual board meeting tonight at 6 in Room 113 at the Gogebic Community College Copper Country Campus. Members will hear a recap of the recent year, vote for new board members, and vote on bylaw amendments. Parents and community members who would like to learn more about the soccer programs offered by Houghton FC are invited.
