In high school volleyball last evening…
• Calumet blanked L’Anse 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-10). Helen Beiring led the Copper Kings with 12 kills, and Jana Loukus had 11 digs.
• Hancock swept Houghton 3-0.
• Ewen-Trout Creek got past Bessemer 3-2.
• Jeffers dropped the first two sets, then rallied to defeat Wakefield-Marenisco 3-2 (24-26, 7-25, 25-16, 25-14, 15-8).
• At a triangular, Ontonagon defeated Watersmeet 2-0 (25-12, 25-15), and fell to Ironwood 2-1 (25-20, 20-25, 13-15).
In volleyball tomorrow…
• Houghton competes at the Wrightstown Invitational.
• Chassell plays at the Hurley/Ironwood Invitational.
At the Tracy Strom Invitational cross country meet at Ishpeming yesterday…
• The Houghton boys claimed four of the top eight positions, and cruised to an easy win. Jeffers placed second in the team standings. Eric Weiss and Isaiah Lawson of the Gremlins finished first and second individually. Benton Rajala paced the Jets with a fourth-place finish.
• Negaunee took first place in the girls meet, with Houghton a close second, Hancock third, and Calumet fourth. Lola Korpi of Ishpeming took individual honors, with Houghton’s Ingrid Seagren and Claire Filpus finishing second and fourth.

• Calumet entertains Iron Mountain. Coverage begins at 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
• Houghton’s game against West Iron County has been canceled because the Wykons don’t have enough players.
• Hancock hosts Westwood. Because of the potential that the Bulldogs’ game against West Iron County on October 22nd might also be called off, Hancock will hold Senior and Parents Night activities tonight.
• L’Anse entertains Negaunee.
• Ontonagon welcomes Norway at the Ewen-Trout Creek field.
Tomorrow…
• Lake Linden-Hubbell hosts Stephenson in the Lakes’ homecoming game. Coverage will start at 1:10 on KBear 102.3.

College Volleyball
The Finlandia volleyball team dropped the first set, then bounced back to defeat Mount Mary 3-1 (16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16) in the opening game of the Sisu Classic last night.
The Classic continues today. Mount Mary will face Great Lakes Christian at 2:00. Finlandia will have a rematch against Mount Mary at 4:00, and will play Great Lakes Christian at 6:00. The Classic concludes tomorrow morning with a rematch between Finlandia and Great Lakes Christian at 11:00.
The Michigan Tech volleyball team hosts Wayne State tonight at 7:00, and Saginaw Valley State tomorrow at 4:00.
College Soccer
The Tech soccer team welcomes Purdue Northwest tonight at 5:00, and hosts Northern Michigan Sunday at noon.
The Finlandia women’s soccer team plays at Wisconsin Lutheran Sunday.
The Finlandia men’s team has the weekend off.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team hosts Davenport in the Huskies’ homecoming game tomorrow at 1:00.
The NMU football team entertains Wayne State.
The Finlandia football team plays at the University of Northwestern in Saint Paul tomorrow.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team hosts Northern Michigan in an exhibition match tomorrow evening at 7:07.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers broke their four-game losing streak with a 10-7 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night. Niko Goodrum hit two home runs. Jonathan Schoop also hit one out. Tarik Skubal struggled in his final start of the season, pitching into the fourth inning, and serving up three home runs.
The Tigers open their final series of the season tonight against the White Sox in Chicago. Wily Peralta will start against Lance Lynn. Coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Saint Louis Cardinals 4-3 yesterday. Brett Anderson gave up two runs over five innings. Miguel Sánchez allowed the other two runs in the sixth, and took the loss. Luis Urías homered.
The Brewers begin a series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles tonight. Eric Lauer will pitch against Clayton Kershaw.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings ripped the Buffalo Sabres 6-2 in preseason play last night. Robby Fabri scored twice, and Pius Suter had three assists. The Wings continue their exhibition schedule tomorrow night at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Listen for regular-season Red Wings games again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

Evan McPherson’s 35-yard field goal as time expired completed the Cincinnati Bengals 24-21 comeback victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in last night’s NFL game.
