The Calumet Copper Kings volleyball team advanced to the Class C regional final with a 3-0 victory over Munising last night. The Kings will face Rudyard in the Regional final tomorrow at 5:30 at Gladstone. The Bulldogs eliminated Iron Mountain 3-2.

In Class B, Houghton’s tournament run ended with a 3-0 loss to Kingsley. In Class D, Lake Linden-Hubbell’s season ended with a 3-2 loss to Carney-Nadeau.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s hockey team hosts Northland College tonight. Faceoff is at 7:15 at the Houghton County Arena.

It took a shootout, but the Detroit Red Wings snapped their five-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers last night. Andreas Athanasiou scored in the third round of the shootout to seal the win. He also scored the goal that tied the game in the third period. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves through overtime, and stopped all three Flyers’ shots in the shootout. The Wings return home to face the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow night.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons play at Phoenix tonight. Tip-off is at 9:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NFL
The Detroit Lions have activated receiver Corey Fuller from the Physically Unable to Perform List. Tight end Khari Lee has been waived to make room on the roster.

MLB
Detroit Tigers’ second baseman Ian Kinsler won his first Gold Glove Award yesterday. The last Detroit second baseman to win a Gold Glove was Placido Polanco in 2007.
