Kero Scores as Stars Beat Red Wings – Wednesday Sports Wrap

College Football

The Finlandia University football team has added a new recruit. Jonathan Leveille comes from Tampa, Florida.

College Soccer

The Finlandia men’s soccer team has also added a new player. Liam Higgs is from Gainesville, Florida.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Dallas Stars 5-2 last night. Tanner Kero scored the first Dallas goal just three minutes into the game. The Stars added three more before Valtteri Filppula and Dylan Larkin found the net for Detroit. Jonathan Bernier gave up four goals on 12 shots. Thomas Greiss replaced him early in the second period, and stopped all 11 shots he faced. Dallas’ final goal was an empty-netter.

The Wings and the Stars head to Detroit for a game tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Dallas Mavericks tonight.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates were snowed out in the Motor City last night. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader today. Coverage of the first seven-inning contest will begin at 1:50 on 99.3 The Lift. Michael Fulmer will pitch for Detroit. Coverage of the nightcap will start at 6:20. Spencer Turnbull will make his first start of the season. Pittsburgh starters have not been announced.

Corbin Burnes turned in six shutout innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the San Diego Padres 6-0 last night. Burnes gave up four hits, and struck out 10. In 24 innings this season, Burnes has struck out 40 batters, and walked none. Billy McKinney and Jace Peterson homered.

The Brewers conclude that set at San Diego this afternoon. Adrian Houser will start against Dinelson Lamet.

Luis Urías missed last night’s game, after leaving Monday’s contest with a cramp. Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said Urías wasn’t seriously hurt, and is considered day-to-day.
