MLB

Carson Kelly’s two-run homer in the second inning was just enough, as the Tigers shaded the White Sox 2-1 last night. Jack Flaherty pitched into the sixth, gave up Chicago’s only run, and struck out eight.

The Tigers host the White Sox this afternoon. Kenta Maeda will start against Drew Thorpe. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Kerry Carpenter has been cleared to resume baseball activities. He’s been out for a month with a stress fracture in his spine. His potential return to the Tigers is still another month away.

The Brewers lost to the Padres 9-5. Milwaukee took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth, with RBI singles from Brice Turang, William Contreras, Christian Yelich and Rhys Hoskins. San Diego then scored eight runs over the next four innings to put the game away.

The Brewers play at San Diego again today. Carlos Rodriguez will pitch against Randy Vásquez.

Milwaukee has brought Jakob Junis back from the injured list. He’s been out most of the season with a pinched nerve in his throwing shoulder. Bradley Blalock has been returned to Nashville to make room.

NHL

The Oilers forced a seventh game in the Stanley Cup playoffs by stomping the Panthers 5-1 last night. The Cup will be decided Monday night in Florida. It’s only the third time in history that a team has lost the first three games of the series, and come back to tie it. The other teams to do it were the 1942 Maple Leafs and the 1945 Red Wings. Both of those teams lost in their final games.

Roller Derby

Keweenaw Roller Derby will host Grand Raggidy from Grand Rapids tonight at the Colosseum. Doors open at 5, and skating begins at 6. Tickets are just $5 (cash or card) and children under 10 get in free.
