Kane Seals Red Wings’ Overtime Win – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

Two Upper Peninsula girls basketball teams are headed to the Breslin Center, after tournament quarterfinal victories last night.
• In Division Four, Ishpeming dispatched Saint Ignace 65-45. The Hematites will play Fowler in one semifinal tomorrow. Frankfort and Kingston will meet in the other.
• In Division Two, Negaunee eliminated Flint Powers Catholic 50-45. The Miners will face Detroit Edison in one semifinal Friday. Grand Rapids West Catholic and Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard will meet in the other.

NHL

The Red Wings overcame an early two-goal deficit, and shaded the Capitals 4-3 in overtime last evening. Lucas Raymond’s second goal of the night with 13 seconds remaining in regulation forced the extra period. Patrick Kane scored the game-winner just 48 seconds into overtime. Moritz Seider also scored. James Reimer made 32 saves.

The Wings entertain the Islanders tomorrow evening. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons host the Pacers tonight, with coverage at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB Spring Training

The Tigers and Phillies played to a scoreless tie yesterday. Jack Flaherty allowed four hits over five innings, and four relievers allowed just one batter to reach base on an error over the final four innings. Detroit batters managed only three hits.

The Tigers will play the Twins today. Casey Mize will start.

The Brewers came from behind to down half of the Guardians 8-5 yesterday. Chris Rea pitched into the fifth, and allowed all five runs on nine hits. Sal Frelick, Willy Adames and Eric Haase homered.

The Brewers have today off, and take on the Giants tomorrow night. Wade Miley will start.

NFL

Detroit Lions defensive end Romeo Okwara announced on his social media feed that he is retiring, after eight years in the league.
