MLB
Blaine Hardy turned in five effective innings, as the Detroit Tigers edged the Cleveland Indians 2-1 yesterday. Hardy gave up a run on four hits, filling in for Francisco Liriano, who was scratched because of an allergic reaction. JaCoby Jones’ two-run homer in the third inning provided all the offense Detroit needed.

The Tigers entertain the Indians again this afternoon. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Corey Kluber. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Jones left the game in the sixth inning with tightness in his lower back. He’s considered day-to-day.

The Tigers have claimed reliever Josh Smoker off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He’s been assigned to Toledo. To clear space on the 40-man roster, reliever Warwick Saupold has been designated for assignment. If Saupold clears waivers, he can be returned to Toledo.

Two of the biggest stars of the Tigers’ 1984 championship team will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame today. Shortstop Alan Trammell and starting pitcher Jack Morris were selected by the veterans committee. They join Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, Jim Thome and Trevor Hoffman, who were voted in by the baseball writers.

Christian Yelich homered, Lorenzo Cain had four hits, and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-1 yesterday. Jhoulys Chacín was building a no-hitter until Nick Hundley homered to lead off the sixth inning. Chacín completed seven innings, and earned the win.

The Brewers will play the Giants in San Francisco again this afternoon. Junior Guerra will pitch against Andrew Suárez.
