High School

On the final night of the regular boys basketball season…
• Hancock lost to West Iron County 68-53.
• Baraga stopped Superior Central 46-29.
• L’Anse concluded a winless regular season with a 69-21 loss to Bessemer.

In girls play last night…
• The Houghton girls basketball games against Ontonagon were canceled because of illness within Ontonagon’s team. The contest has been replaced on the schedule with a varsity-only game at Ewen-Trout Creek Tuesday. Tip-off will be at 6:00. Senior Night and the “Shoot with the Gremlins” event have been moved to Thursday’s home contest against Ishpeming.
• Hancock defeated L’Anse 42-32.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell downed Calumet 58-50. Emily Jokela of the Lakes led all scorers with 30 points, and surpassed Angela Guisfredi to become the all-time leading scorer in Lake Linden women’s basketball history. With 1,344 career points, she is now just six points away from passing Tyler Roose to become the school’s all-time leading overall scorer. The Lakes improve to 20-1, with one regular-season game remaining.

The regional hockey tournament begins today with two semifinals at the SDC…
• Top-seed Houghton meets Calumet at 4:00.
• Second-seed Hancock takes on Jeffers at 6:00.
Doubleheader coverage will begin at 3:40 on KBear 102.3.

The JV hockey tournament also takes place this weekend at the SDC. In today’s semifinals, Houghton faces Hancock at 10:00, and Calumet takes on Marquette at noon. Coverage will begin at 9:40 on KBear 102.3. We’ll also broadcast tomorrow’s 11:00 championship game, with coverage beginning at 10:40 on KBear.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team slammed Bowling Green 7-0 last night. The Huskies outshot the Falcons 56-28. Alex Nordstrom scored twice, and Tyrone Bronte, Isaac Gordon, Arvid Caderoth, Marcus Pederson and Jack Works also found the net. Henry Bartle had three assists. Blake Pietila earned the shutout in net. Those teams skate again tonight in Ohio.

The Northern Michigan hockey squad edged Ferris State 3-2 last evening. Those teams meet again tonight in Big Rapids.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams visit Saginaw Valley State today.

Both Northern Michigan teams play at Wayne State.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers outscored the Mosinee Papermakers 10-6 last night. Ross Rouleau and Riley McKay each had hat tricks.

The Calumet Wolverines welcome the Papermakers tonight. The puck drops at 6:00 at the Colosseum.

NHL

The Red Wings entertain the Blues today. Coverage will start at 11:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons host the Magic tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Tigers open their Grapefruit League schedule this afternoon against the Yankees. Reese Olson will start for Detroit.

The Brewers begin their Cactus League campaign against the Padres. Rob Zastryzny will start for the Crew.
