Jets Volleyball Takes Two – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night…

  • At the Jeffers triangular, the Jets defeated Ewen-Trout Creek 2-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-20). Reegan Kinnunen had 3 aces, 7 digs and 5 kills; Elizabeth Halonen 10 assists, 2 aces, and 15 digs; and Alaina Kangas 4 digs and 5 kills. Jeffers then swept Watersmeet 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-9). Sammi Pennala had 3 aces and 5 kills; Taylor Heinonen 13 assists, 5 digs and 2 kills; Montanna Heinonen 7 digs and 7 kills; and Aina Anderson 4 kills.
  • L’Anse swept Ontonagon 3-0.

On tonight’s schedule…

  • Hancock entertains Calumet on Senior Night. Coverage will begin around 6:10 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
  • Lake Linden-Hubbell hosts Ironwood.

The matchups are set for the opening round of the state volleyball tournament next week.

  • In Division Two, Houghton will open Wednesday at Kingsford, with coverage on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
  • In Division Three, Calumet will host the winner of Monday’s game between West Iron County and Ishpeming on Wednesday evening, with coverage on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. Jeffers will host the winner of Monday’s game between Ironwood and Westwood on Wednesday.
  • In Division Four, District 98 on Monday, L’Anse plays at Chassell, The winner will play at Hancock Wednesday. Dollar Bay-Tamarack City plays at Baraga, with the winner playing at Lake Linden-Hubbell Wednesday.
  • In Division Four, District 97, all games will be played at Ewen-Trout Creek. Ontonagon will open against Bessemer Monday, with the winner advancing to face the host Panthers on Wednesday.

Tickets are now on sale for Calumet’s football playoff game at Kingsley Saturday. The MHSAA requires that playoff tickets be purchased through their online provider. Click here to make your purchase. The Kings will meet the Stags in a district semifinal Saturday at 1:00. Coverage will begin at 12:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

NHL

The Red Wings will host the Jets tomorrow. Coverage will start at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons’ record dropped to 0-4 last night, with a 106-98 loss to the Heat. Cade Cunningham scored 24 points, and Isaiah Stewart snared 15 rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

The Pistons visit the 76ers tomorrow.

MLB

The Dodgers defeated the Yankees 4-2 last evening, and took a 3-0 lead in the World Series. Game four will be played tonight in New York.

NFL

In last night’s game, the Steelers outscored the Giants 26-18.

There’s no further update on Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who left Sunday’s game against the Jaguars with a groin strain. Yesterday, coach Matt LaFleur said the team will monitor his progress through the week. He also indicated that Love had suffered the injury early in the game, and he played over it until leaving in the third quarter.
