Jets Stun Bulldogs – Tuesday Sports Wrap

In high school hockey last night, Brendan Middleton’s unassisted breakaway goal in overtime highlighted a second half comeback as Jeffers upset Hancock 5-4. The Bulldogs led 2-1 after the first period, and 3-2 after the second. Jacob Zerst was outstanding in goal for the Jets, with 35 saves. Dominic Nettell scored twice for Jeffers, and Ted Randell had two goals for Hancock.

– Lake Linden-Hubbell got past Chassell 41-35. Peyton Gast scored 12 for the Lakes, and Julia Pietila had 12 for the Panthers.
– L’Anse shut down Ewen-Trout Creek 76-22. Bailey Froberg scored 24 for the Purple Hornets. Alexis Francois added 18, and Lauren Elmblad scored 12.

Tonight, Calumet will entertain Ishpeming. The Copper Kings’ state championship banner will be raised in the CLK gym.

In boys’ play last night…
– Calumet got past Ontonagon 56-55.
– Houghton defeated West Iron County 40-32. Hunter Richards had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Gremlins.

The Detroit Red Wings host the New Jersey Devils tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Detroit Pistons will visit the Miami Heat tonight.

Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes, as the Detroit Lions held off the New Orleans Saints 35-27 last night. Detroit raced out to a 28-3 lead, and had to withstand a furious comeback by New Orleans, who closed the gape to eight points with 10 minutes remaining. Stafford completed 22 of 25 passes for 254 yards. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have picked at least 15 games correctly to be eligible to be our weekly winner.

The Detroit Tigers have sent pitcher Kyle Lobstein to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lobstein was designated for assignment Friday night to make room after they signed utility player Mike Aviles. The team had 10 days to release him, trade him, or offer him to other teams on waivers. The Pirates will give Detroit an undisclosed amount of cash in exchange.
