High School

In boys basketball last evening…
• Calumet fell to Negaunee 65-36. The Copper Kings trailed by just nine points at halftime, but the Miners used a dominant third quarter to put the game away. Brayden Nelson led Calumet with 15 points. Ty Jacobson and Gavin Saunders each scored 21 for Negaunee.
• Hancock lost at Ishpeming 68-23.
• Jeffers cruised past Ontonagon 83-43. The Jets improve to 6-0.
• L’Anse fell to Ironwood 69-51.
• Chassell lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 60-42.
• Baraga fell to Bessemer 55-46.
• Ewen-Trout Creek v Republic-Michigamme – postponed.

In girls action last night…
• Chassell downed Wakefield-Marenisco 43-31.
• Baraga defeated Bessemer 70-33.

MLB

The Tigers have added some bullpen depth by signing veteran lefthander Chasen Shreve to a one-year minor league contract. Shreve turned in a good year with the Pirates in 2021, but struggled last year with the Mets and Yankees.

The Brewers added some infield depth by signing Josh VanMeter to a minor league deal.

College Football

Georgia buried TCU 65-7 to win their second straight national championship last night.
