Jeffers’ Schutz to Play Hoops at FinnU – Saturday Sports Wrap

College Basketball

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team has added a new recruit. Former Jeffers High School standout Johnny Schutz will join the team next fall. Schutz averaged nearly 20 points per game for the Jets last season, and earned numerous post-season honors.

College Soccer

The Finlandia men’s soccer team has also introduced a new player. Benjamin Thompson comes from Clinton Township, where he played for the Faith Christian School.

NBA

The Pistons have signed free agent forward Kevin Knox II to a two-year, $6 million deal. Knox was the ninth overall pick out of Kentucky in the 2018 draft, but has struggled with his shooting.

MLB

The Tigers lost to the Royals 3-1 last evening. Michael Pineda returned from the injured list, and gave up three runs over five innings. Detroit’s only score came on an Eric Haase sacrifice fly in the ninth.

The Tigers host the Royals again this afternoon. Beau Brieske will start against Kris Bubic. Coverage will begin at 3:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Spencer Torkelson left the game after he was hit on the helmet by a pitch. Team officials says he did not suffer a concussion.

To make room on the roster for Pineda, starter Alex Faedo was optioned back to Toledo.

The Brewers routed the Pirates 19-2 last night. The Crew got homers from Luis Urías, Keston Hiura, Rowdy Tellez, Willy Adames and Victor Caratini. Corbin Burnes allowed a run on just one hit over six innings.

The Brewers play in Pittsburgh again this afternoon.

Milwaukee has added starter Adrian Houser to the injured list. He left Thursday’s game with an elbow injury.
